Our Veterinarians

Dr. Thomas Maves
DVM
Dr. Maves graduated from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. He practiced emergency medicine at the Animal Emergency Clinic in Ann Arbor for nine years before opening the Village Animal Clinic of Dexter in 1997. When not at work he likes to fish and duck hunt at his cabin up north. He lives in Lansing with his wife, Dr. Susan Ewart, three boys and his Poodle, Ivy.

Dr. Karen Holmstrand
DVM
Dr. Holmstrand graduated from The Ohio State University with her veterinary degree in 1994. Dr. Holmstrand has 3 years of emergency practice while she was in vet school and 26 years experience of general practice. She has been at the clinic since 2002. She lives in Chelsea with her husband, Phil, two children and her cats Tony, Lucy and Peggy. Her hobbies include scrapbooking and reading.

Dr. Cheryl Smith
DVM
Dr. Smith graduated from Michigan State University in 1987. She also completed an internship at MSU in 1989. Dr. Smith currently lives in Pinckney on a small farm raising sheep for stockdog training. She has many dogs, one horse, a few cattle, ducks and cats work on her farm as well.
